APA 7 Title Page Format for Student Papers
APA 7 gives student papers a simpler title page than the professional version. No running head, no author note — just five things, centered, in the right spots. Here's the whole thing.
What goes on a student title page
Everything is centered and double-spaced. From top to bottom:
- Title — in bold, in the upper half of the page (about 3 or 4 lines down). Use title case.
- Your name — one blank line below the title.
- Department and school — for example, "Department of Psychology, State University."
- Course number and name — for example, "PSY 101: Introduction to Psychology."
- Instructor's name — for example, "Dr. Jane Smith."
- Due date — written out, like "October 14, 2026."
The page number goes in the top-right corner — and yes, the title page is page 1.
Example
The Effects of Sleep on Memory
Jordan Lee
Department of Psychology, State University
PSY 101: Introduction to Psychology
Dr. Jane Smith
October 14, 2026
Common mistakes
- Title not bold. The student title page bolds the title — the professional one does too, as of APA 7.
- Adding a running head. Student papers skip it. See do APA papers need a running head?
- Wrong spacing. The whole page stays double-spaced — no extra blank lines beyond the one under the title.
- Date as numbers. Spell the month out: "October 14, 2026," not "10/14/26."
